A Toy Story Halloween

Jonah mentioned a few months ago that he wanted to be Buzz Lightyear for Halloween, so when I saw someone posted this costume for $5 I picked it up just in case. I figured he'd use it for dress up even if he changed his mind about his costume choice later. The helmet light was broken, but John fixed the wiring. Other than that it looked great!
To infinity and beyond!
Scott's costume was more troublesome. He was dead set on being Bullseye. I bought this huge stuffed animal from another mom for $2 to see what we could do. I couldn't find brown clothes anywhere, so ended up getting Chewbacca pjs and turning them inside out.
I spent a General Conference session cutting up the Bullseye and putting it back together.
It was just barely the right size--total miracle because I don't know what else we could have done.
I made a little saddle and attached the stirrups, then sewed it on his back. The tail and hooves were pinned on. I couldn't get the hat to stay on when he ran around, then had a duh moment and made a ribbon tie.
Run like the wind, Bullseye!
Little P was an easy $5 clearance onesie from Target.
I debated buying boots, but his onesie already included some and they were easier/cosier, I couldn't find an infant cowboy hat anywhere, but figured it didn't really matter. Then the night before, I made potato head shirts for John and myself out of sweatshirts from a neighbor (and hot glued felt pieces on). There was extra fabric from the sleeves and a hood, so I played with them a little and made a baby hat. I added cardboard in the rim so it didn't flop.
It's pretty shoddy workmanship, but looked good from a distance and only needed to stay together for a few hours of wear.
Woody's getting a little heavy for his horse.
You've got a friend in me
The boys helped me cut out clouds and color a toy story logo for our trunk for the church activity. We played Toy Story music and it was so fun!
Then I taped the paper up for a photo backdrop.
Vans came out with a Toy Story line right in time for Halloween, but they were sold out instantly everywhere. I kept checking and finally found Buzz ones (their choice) for the big boys. I wanted little Woody ones, but never found any in Perry's size.
The shoes cost a lot more than the costumes, but at least they'll get good use after the one day.
Andy's toys.
I've never been a huge Halloween fan before, but having little kids to dress up and take around makes it so fun for me. I liked piecing together our family outfits.

We went to Krispy Kreme for a free donut and so many people said hi to Buzz. Jonah turned to me and said, "Everyone knows my name." I told him lots of people like Buzz Lightyear and Toy Story. He said, "I'm the coolest guy ever!"
We also went to Uncle John's Grace Street Parade.
The boys were enthralled with the marching band and color guard.
We also went to my mom's school activity. They decorated pumpkins and had cupcakes.
And another trick or treat at Santana Row while Scott was in preschool.
I wanted to get as much use out of their costumes as possible.
This was my favorite Halloween. I know things will change as the boys get older, so I'm soaking it up while it lasts.

  1. I was wondering how you got such a great Bullseye hat! I love the last two pictures with Jonah and Perry taking turns looking at each other/the camera. You need to add a picture of you and John in costume. Mrs. Potato Head is conspicuously absent...
