John bought our house 3 years ago this month. Rather than think about what we need/want to work on next in our house (kitchen, guest bath, landscaping, vents, blinds, roof, fence, driveway, etc.) I'm trying to focus on how far we've come. I tried to take pictures from the same angles as when he moved in to compare. We've made a lot of progress, especially considering the extra projects that aren't visible (termites, insulation), but for the most part the pictures do the talking . . .
Front of the house:
(new windows, siding paint, front door, took down antenna)
Entrance:
(new door, removed tile, refinished hardwood, new baseboards, paint)
Hallway:
(removed carpet, refinished hardwood, paint, replaced light, baseboards)
Dining area:
(paint, light fixture)
Kitchen:
(Not much has changed yet, but the appliances help. Replaced garbage disposal, took off light covering, paint)
Other side of kitchen:
(replaced wood paneling with drywall)
Laundry room:
(beautiful new washer! I love this thing!)
Bonus room:
(in progress)
Family room:
(paint--the color seems the same in these pictures, but it was blue clouds before and now it's grayish, baseboards, removed carpet, refinished hardwood)
Other side of living room:
(removed wood paneled wall, paint, new sliding glass door, and refinished hardwood--which I will mention in every single room because it was such a huge, nasty project)
Master bedroom:
(paint, new fan, replaced picked-up-from-side-of-road "dresser" with a classy Ikea one)
Other side of master:
(took off doors, refinished hardwood)
Master bathroom (master meaning attached to the bedroom, not larger):
(smaller cabinet, removed butterfly wallpaper, wall grips, and floor squares, replaced floorboards, vanity, put in linoleum, paint)
Shower:
(took out door frame and replaced with curtain, fixed leak, recaulked, new shower head and fixtures--not shown)
Guest bathroom (a.k.a. monstrously large bathroom where two or more people could simultaneously brush their teeth):
(not much yet--fixed a leak, painted the door, recaulked the tub)
Guest bedroom:
(painted, removed some shelves, baseboards, refinished hardwood, new fan. Currently just storing junk that was in the bonus room)
Nursery:
(removed paneling and doors, painted shelves and room, put in beadboard, new fan, baseboards, refinished hardwood)
Other side of nursery:
(made a cute baby prop for decoration)
Backyard:
(replaced shed. Probably the only area that looks worse than when we moved in. I say we'll work on the outside when the inside is done.)
Although we have this hand-me-down lawn furniture now from Brian and Annie that was hand-me-downed from Jan, so that's an improvement:
That concludes our grand house tour. See you in three more years.
Wow, those before and after pictures really do look so different! I can't believe it's been 3 years.
