Polynesian Cultural Center

Jane started crying while I was working and I looked up to see her caught in the chair.
We started a fresh new day with some malasadas from Leonard's.
Next time I'd go not first thing on a Saturday, because it was a very long line.
The malasadas earned their hype.
After our treat we drove to the east side of the island where we had
another treat. And lunch.
I wanted to try Seven Brothers, which was delicious burgers. The kids had packed lunches instead and shared shave ices.
Then we went to the PCC.
I didn't know what to expect, but it was great.
We learned a lot, it felt authentic and we got to meet people from the various islands as they shared their culture with us.
We were there from when they opened to closed and the boys all wanted to go back.
This was the only paid activity we did in Hawaii, so it was a relief that it was worth choosing.
They played musical instruments, went fishing
Jonah caught one!
Jane caught a leaf!
tried new foods, including a coconut bread that they loved.
Trying out some stick tricks.
No fire for them.
Some things were different because of covid, but we still had more we wanted to do than we had time for in a day.
And the kids did great. The hula and other performances or talking parts were engaging and not too long for kids. There were hands-on things at each island area.
We went on a boat ride
which Jane loved.
And saw a fire performance.
We watched a Maori dance and Haka
then tried out their poi balls.
We had time for a couple spear throws
and retrievals, before dinner.
We had the buffet and more dessert.
Then drove out to see the temple, where it poured rain.
We came back and saw the Breath of Ha show, which was incredible. Jane fell asleep at the end, but the boys were enthralled the entire time. Driving back after made for a very late night, but totally worth it for a rewarding day together.
