Pearl Harbor and Turtle Bay

I was teaching remotely and got up early to work before we went out each day. Jane liked to join me on the balcony for the sunrise and some breakfast.
When everyone else woke up, we headed to Pearl Harbor.
It has been on my list of places to see forever and the dock was broken for a while. Luckily, they fixed it right in time for our reservations.
We took the boat out to the USS Arizona. You can still see and smell the oil leaking. It was an incredible, somber experience.
We considered visiting other ships as well, but didn't want to overdo it with the kids.
Some of them played on the grass while the rest of us read all about the attacks.
We drove up to the north shore and stopped at Ted's bakery, which is known for their pies.
Jane filled the long wait by playing with flowers.
After lunch (we liked it, I wouldn't say it was a must stop), we went to turtle bay.
It was very windy, but gorgeous.
The kids enjoyed walking along the water and seeing all the tide pools.

My mom and Henry stayed away from the water where they were sure to lose a hearing aid.

Jonah loved being sprayed by the big waves crashing.
Jane was not afraid to get a little wet.
Perry found these huge pieces of coral.
Monkeying around
Then we went to Matsumoto's to try their famous shave ice.
Jane chose "pineappley, pineappley, pineappley" from the menu. The line wasn't as long as I expected and they moved very efficiently.
Totally worth the stop. Other than Wilson's in Hilo with their homemade syrups, it was the best shave ice we'd had.
Even the boy's unnatural flavors were good. And it was lower priced than the Waikiki places.
I had to get Jane this little Pineappley friend.
The drive back to the hotel was rough with traffic and lots of fighting in the car. I think the schedule changes and busy days of togetherness caught up to some of us.
