Saturday in Bellingham

After both families agreed to a strict isolation period, we drove to Washington to visit my brother's family and get away from the heat and smoke. We left after school on Friday and hit an unexpected 2 hours of traffic. John and I took turns napping, then stopped at a rest area somewhere around 1am and both slept until 4, then kept driving.

Jane did shockingly well. We drove through the night to avoid hotel exposure and to help make the drive more bearable for her. She sat between Scott and Jonah in the back row, which also helped.
After a quick leg stretch and breakfast at Chick-fil-a, we drove the last few hours and made it to Rick and Jessica's on Saturday right after lunch. Jane and Malcolm were fast enemies.

While Cedric and Perry were the best of friends.
They just played together in the backyard for hours.
It was so nice to see family and have playmates for the kids after months of isolation.
We walked down to their local park, which looked like a scene from a movie. Everything is so green and gorgeous up there.
We loved being able to play freely outdoors.
Jane discovered dandelions.
Malcolm offering a temporary truce for sharing wishes.
Cedric really liked Scott as well. And Scott likes being in charge of the activities with littler kids.
The playgrounds were still closed, but the big grassy area was empty.
Jonah showing her how it's done.
She kept running for the park, so I had her climb the rocks instead.
Ced was glued to Scott on the walk back.
Nothing feels homier than being around the kitchen table together.
Rick had a big screen and projector set up in the front yard and we watched a Mickey short before bed.
It was already worth the drive.
