Action Packed Day of Rest

This is my primary class after their program. They seem to be slightly out of control.
Just kidding. They were singing Once There Was A Snowman and are very enthusiastic about their melting.
After church this little escape artist knocked a plank out of our fence and the neighbor's gate was open.
Luckily some girls on the block found him and kept him safe until John brought him back home.
Then John made some delicious parmesan potato wedges for dinner. And, yes, we ate this whole pan. Josh helped. A little.

Mug of Mug

John brought rootbeer home from work this week, so we did a blind taste test for each other.
The winner (Mug) was joined with homemade ice cream
and the loser (Dad's) was fed to Rocky.
(Who loved it, by the way.)

Book Club

It was my turn to host book club so Karen came and helped me get everything ready. We read I Capture the Castle, so hot chocolate and (Dick's burnt almond) cake were the treats of choice.

Late Night De-Tile

We decided to pull up our tile tonight. We're all about spontaneous house projects. The messier the better.
Eventually John brought our trash can in. Not classy, but very efficient.
After cleaning up the major debris
the sanding began. The tile removal was easy, it was the grout sanding and glue chipping that was more labor intensive.
After a few man hours. Still a little grout left, but we removed enough to prep for the major sander.
To be continued...

Houses

We've been hunting with the parents to find something suitable. Open houses are ideal, but occasionally we resort to peeking through windows.

Speaking of houses, we went by one of John's childhood homes in Santa Cruz.
He said the whole area has shrunk a lot since then.

Nothing Says Romance Like

the County Fair!
John took me to Santa Cruz's fair to see
The All-Alaskan Racing Pigs! Our team's pig won, too. Way to go, Yukon!
Then we saw the prize pumpkins (almost 400 pounds!)
and went to berry tasting (these kids had furry animal hats on...it wasn't super cold, so maybe they were to be able to find/see the kids easily? Or protect them from the sun??)
Also the collections were on display. John liked the Legos ones best. I thought this chess board was creative.
The Exploratorium was really neat, too. We ended up playing here for a while. This was the boat racing, where you can adjust the sail's angle to speed it up. (There were fans on the other side of the table)
Then, of course, the animals. From huge smelly cows
to cute little baby goats.
When we saw Bubba Sr. we got a little homesick and decided to head back.
Fun times!

Bubba's Bath

Bubba gets so filthy and can't seem to keep up with his hygiene, so occasionally we help him out with a hose down. Luckily he doesn't mind the water too much.
Proof that he's not that big, just fluffy.
John dried him off and he was good as new.

Almaden Hills Picnic

I made a scavenger hunt for John today. He followed clues that led us to the top of Bald Mountain.
There we enjoyed a little lunch
and beautiful weather.

BBQ Lunch

Karen and Alan drove all night to celebrate Labor Day with us

Cuddly Kitty

Bubba's never been one for cat beds of any kind. He prefers to find his own creative nests. Like shoe boxes. Or laptop cases...

John found him napping under the bed. Crazy cat.

Krispy Kreme Morning

After temple donuts. Mmm Almost makes getting up at six worth it. Especially the new caramel apple ones!

Stephens

Jaime's family stopped over for a quick rest on their travels last night. We were so glad to see them and it was much too short!
