Jane turns ONE

Jane woke up as a big one year old in our bed. Maybe by her next birthday she'll be sleeping through the night.
She did all her favorite activities, like trying on our shoes.
She put on her birthday dress and was ready for a day of partying.
And pictures.
We went for a little walk outside.
But it was blazing hot out. So we stood in the shade and I took her picture.
I can't get enough of her. I think she's the cutest little doll.
She kept putting her hands against the wall like she was caught in a dead end.
She helped me hang her birthday banner.
And naturally, one with her favorite toy, a plastic ax.
After lunch she had a wee nap.
I held her a little longer than needed to soak in my tiny baby while I still can.
We had what we think are her favorite foods for dinner--cheese, salmon, green beans.
Then we (mostly John) finished her cake.
We couldn't wait to see her enjoy it.
It took her a minute to figure out what we were doing.
She poked her finger in and licked off the cream.
Then she did it again with her whole hand.
She was a natural.
She only had a few bites, then wanted to be done. So she shared with the rest of us
and got another tubby.
All clean and jammied.
Everyone wanted to snuggle our sunshine girl.
She liked opening gifts.
Mostly with her mouth.
She is just a delight to be around.
You know it was a good day because the kitchen was a wreck. Or at least a tasty day.
I was sad about not being able to throw a big first birthday party with friends and family, but we had a fun time celebrating Jane at home.
