Our district offered full distance learning for school, but you had to commit for the entire year and would be in a district class that may be a combo grade and if you wanted to switch back to in-person, you weren't guaranteed a spot in your home school. So we opted for the hybrid model, starting fully online and planning to return to a partial in-person day "when safe."
We checked out two school chromebooks and bought headphones, pencils, and notebooks. Jonah has Scott's teachers, again, which I'm not thrilled about because they have a shared contract and they're not totally in sync. But I loved one of them and Jonah does better with switching, so I think he'll be fine. Scott has a new teacher, Mrs Liewer, who seems very nice, patient, fun, and organized.
One of the challenges of school at home is keeping this one out of trouble.
And trying to do some preschool with Perry.
He loves his new little classmate.
Three meals and two breaks with snacks means lots of time in the kitchen.
Perry loves the gonoodle activities the kids do and they call him whenever their class is starting one.
Jonah's little helper.
We're going to have to figure out how to protect their school work from Jane.
And try not to let her distract them too much.
Though she is a welcome distraction.
I do love how much extra sibling time the kids are getting this year.
It's too smoky to go outside, which makes being home all day much more challenging.
The screen time was insane, a full 815am-245pm day on the computer. I was hesitant to let them watch anything else, but they were so burnt out and tired, plus stir crazy from being indoors too long lately.
I'm giving the teachers a few weeks to adjust, then we'll have to chat about the amount of time on the computer, because it's not sustainable for us.
