We were supposed to be camping with John's family in Sequoia this week, so we tried to get out into nature to make up for some of it. This little copy cat cracks me up. He just scooted right in front of John to look at the trail guide.
The covid information was faulty and confusing. It was supposed to be one way trails, since it's narrow in some areas, but the paths didn't line up properly to do the loop.
We just did our best and luckily it wasn't crowded.
John climbs up areas with Jane on his back like it's nothing.
Climbing in the rock areas was the boys' favorite part.
It was a longer hike than we anticipated. The map showed around 3 miles, which is the most we'd done with the kids so far, but it was an extra mile beyond that according to our phones and my fitbit.
Some close rocks.
But at the top we were rewarded with some beautiful views.
You can barely see Scott's head poking out. He loves going fast, but we have to remind him not to go too far ahead.
Jane needed an applesauce break.
In the sun, climbing uphill, it got much warmer. I was wishing we'd put sunscreen on everyone. But the exposed side of the hike had the fantastic view.
Everywhere you looked, as far as you could see, beauty.
After a rest stop for some lunch
we got a bit more pep in our step.
They did so well for about 3.5 miles. Then there was an unmarked part and we had to guess which way to go and of course I picked wrong. It was a short detour distance-wise, but at least 100 stairs down and up. My favorite.
The last half mile-mile we pulled out every fun game and encouragement. Eventually we ran out of water and snacks and just dragged them the last few hundred yards to the van with the promise of a/c and a movie.
Overall, I was really impressed with how far we all went with only minor complaining at the end. Our stamina has definitely improved with all our practicing.
