Our Yellowstone campsite flooded the week before our trip, so we were scrambling to try and find a place to get together.
Henry's brother and sister-in-law graciously offered to let us stay with them so we could still go to Yellowstone.
We adjusted our trip and headed out on the long drive after John stopped work for the day. We tried Cane's for dinner and found an amazing shave ice truck in Vacaville.
We stopped at rest stops to run around. We found a cheap motel that let us check-in until midnight. I may have done some speeding to make it in time. We got some sleep, showers, and were delighted to find and use a pancake robot for breakfast.
It was worth the long hours in the van when we arrived. Their property is amazing!
Their home is beautiful and enormous. The kids got right to work playing outside.
Then they showed the kids their toys.
Amanda arrived and took the atv
and we loaded up in the utv.
It was a really good time.
We went up to the resevoir
Everywhere you looked you found beauty
We went on a hike up the hill
Amanda getting a little help from Jane on the rocky parts.
The boys ran ahead to make time to throw rocks before we caught up
Perry was in his element
Amanda found some moth ball things.
Scott helped Jane cross the freezing stream.
Amanda was enlisted to help them on the way back. It was snow runoff and you could tell.
It was just breathtakingly beautiful and enormous.
Jonah found a giant stone and carried it all the way back to the water.
He got a satisfying splash and we took a family photo.
The little guys wanted a turn with Amanda on the way back, but Perry was petrified.
It did not phase Jane.
Then Opa took us for ice cream in town.
Where the kids found books.
We went back and made s'mores.
Jane worked really hard on the fire.
It was fun to be with family in a new place.
Gloria had giant marshmallows.
Barely sticky at all.
Amanda and Scott were the patient roasters, but Scott's caught fire.
So John helped him make a perfect golden brown one.
Jane ate hers anywhere from raw to burnt.
Perry just liked playing in the flames.
It was a fun, full day and we all crashed hard in our comfy beds.
They actually had enough beds for all of us, and yet Jane still made her way into ours.
