After being closed for almost a year and a half, the Oakland temple remodeling was done and we got tickets for the open house. The Greek church down the street generously opened their parking lot to us, so we walked up from there.
We waited in the tri stake center for our tour, where we watched a slideshow of pictures of temples around the world and John made us a travel plan.
Then we watched a video about the temple and its purpose, then waited in line outside.
If anyone gets their picture taken, Perry wants a turn.
Or to jump in on it.
It was a beautiful, warm, clear day.
Perry was getting tired of waiting, but taking pictures entertained him for a while.
They redid the waterfall and reflecting pool in front and it was beautiful.
I took three pictures of my cute boys and one of them is not looking in each one.
We went through the rooms and had the chance to explain to the kids what each one was for and show them where we were married 9.5 years ago.
Then we went on the rooftop and took some pictures.
I bought John a new dress shirt since his only one without holes had so many stains on it. We celebrated this nice clean slate with some pictures with the boys.
Then we had someone take a family picture on the temple steps.
I was in a lot of pain from standing too long and getting nauseous from not eating, so we headed out and stopped at the first In-n-Out on the way home.
Perry ate his first cheeseburger, every last bite, and earned some milkshake.
Jonah promised he wouldn't get a stomachache from the dairy. Scott grew a vanilla mustache.
It was a tiring day, but so special to be able to take the kids inside the temple. John and I will participate in the dedication in a few weeks, then we can go serve inside again. Scott will be able to start going inside in less than 4 years, which is crazy to think about. Time flies when you're having fun.
I don't know that the kids got much out of going today, but it was a great family memory for John and me.
