We tried to go visit friends near Yosemite every weekend, but too much snow blocked the road to their town or the boys had baseball games or John was on call for work. So when another family invited us to stay the night at their cabin in Tahoe when we were all free, we jumped at the chance.
Perry looked so cute, but did not like sledding. "Me don't like it! Me don't like it!" the whole way down the little hill.
He stayed with me
and worked on our icy snowman,
threw snowballs,
and ate some ice,
while his thrill-seeking brothers flew down the big hill.
They loved it and ran back up over and over. I was amazed at their stamina and ability to climb uphill in snowboots at a high altitude.
Then Scott crashed hard into someone at the bottom of the hill.
His sweet little face was so swollen and it made me nervous, but it wasn't hurting more to touch and the nurse I talked to said he looked fine, just a black eye.
He iced it and was the first to fall asleep.
The next morning he went back out to play in the snow
and bravely went sledding again.
It was a small hill, so I bravely let him.
After riding with John a few times, even Perry decided he liked sledding, too.
Jonah, daredevil and impervious to cold, could've stayed in the snow all week.
I packed up the car while they played some more.
We ate breakfast (we brought fried rice for dinner the night before and french toast for breakfast, which made meals nice and easy).
and Jonah did a little silly meditating.
Poor Scott was feeling better, but looking worse.
We hit the road and stopped for in-n-out on the way home.
Perry drew snowballs on the drive.
At school the next day, Scott said all the kids asked him what happened.
It never bruised like I expected and he never complained about it hurting or it being hard to see. Kids heal so quickly.
By the end of the week, he was good as new. I know sledding injuries can be a lot worse, so even though it hurt him and made me anxious, I'm glad it was just a swollen eye.
They're all excited to go back to the snow, so we'll have to get an earlier start booking something next year.
