One of the last activities on our summer list was the aquarium, so we found a day Karen could come and drove down for the day.

We went to Ghirardelli's and played on the beach until it was time to head out.
We've made this trip enough to time it just right to avoid most of the traffic, and pack a lunch but get ice cream before the drive back so a later dinner is okay. We'd love to live down there, but having an easy day trip is great, too.
