Jonah's Week 2

Alan came over to visit while Karen was in Utah.

He played with Scott and then held Jonah.

Jonah spent a lot of time sleeping this week. He was much easier to watch than his older, active, vocal brother.

He also ate a lot. John says he sleeps like a baby and eats like a teenager.

My dad came over to meet the little guy, too.

So far Jonah has loved the pacifier, which we're hoping he'll continue to do. Scott never cared for them past the first month, so we'll see. 

Jonah's belly button scab came off when he was 10 days old, so we could bathe him.

He liked when I put the warm wash cloth on him and would just sit there all scrunched up.

He really stretched Scott's newborn jams. That extra inch makes a big difference.

The Relief Society in our ward gave Jonah a diaper cake! Just what he always wanted.

He can be very dramatic.

When Jonah's out, he is really out. He's slept through diaper and clothing changes.

Sleepy guy

My sister bought him this lion baby brother shirt. It was so tiny we couldn't believe a human being was going to fit in it. 

We discovered sleep gowns when Scott was 3 months and tried some newborn ones out with Jonah, but they don't work. He wriggles out of his diaper if there isn't something over it to hold it in place. I'd just put a onesie underneath if it weren't so hot out.

Jonah smiles a LOT.

I know everyone blames gas, but regardless of the reason, we love his baby smiles.

Brotherly Love

Our first night home we went for a walk. Jonah had his hand in the air and Scott held it.

I bought them matching rompers.

Scott was eager to try holding Jonah.

We'd practiced with his baby doll, but this was the first time he'd held a real baby.

We had to practice "gentle." Poor Jonah has to be patient while Scott learns this one.

Scott is anxious to give Jonah the bottle and paci. Unfortunately, Scott does it whenever he sees the bottle or paci, not when Jonah necessarily needs or wants it. He's been woken up before by Scott jabbing a pacifier in his face.

When he wants to be helpful I give him the plastic bottle to give his baby doll instead.

I finally found a big brother shirt in a 2t right before Jonah was born.

You can tell here how much Jonah likes being kissed.

Again, we kiss the baby doll instead.

It looks more like he's sucking the baby's head because Scott kisses by blowing raspberries. We encourage it because it's funny and less likely to end with a bite.

Aug 26th: 18 Months & 2 Weeks

Scott is a year and a half. He's too cool for chair pictures these days.

At his check-up he was 27 1/2 lbs (85th percentile),
33 inches tall (66th percentile)
and had a 19 inch head circumference (72nd percentile).

 I took his overalls off since it was hot and he took a book from his bookshelf and squatted to read.

 He looks so calm and contemplative here. It's all a ruse. I think the b&w hue contributed.

 He really is a sweet boy, though. When he wants to be.

Scott has developed several skills lately and comparing him to a newborn makes him seem more grown-up and capable. 

 Jonah at 2 weeks old.

He prefers being on his stomach.

 I'm trying to have John take more pictures of me with Jonah.

 I didn't like how I looked in pictures with baby Scott, but later it didn't matter as much, so I'm hoping that will be the case with Jonah as well.

At his check-up, Jonah was up to 8 lbs 10 oz (52th percentile)

21 inches long (59th percentile) 

and had a 14.5 inch head circumference (69th percentile).

Our friend who took Scott's amazing newborn pictures moved away. But I have a nice camera now, so I tried noodling around with it.

Then Jonah woke up and that was the end of that.

I didn't want Scott to feel left out.

He gave Jonah a kiss (instead of hitting him), so I gave him his first m&m. 

Since then he's been kissing Jonah every chance he gets. 

I said sorry, only one treat and this was his reaction.
