Lick Observatory

One day at Costco I bought a lemon tree. John was excited and planted it the next Saturday. After he finished, we all went up the long, windy road to the observatory. They have free tours every day before five and John's wanted to go for years.
The telescope was cool, but the most impressive part is how they brought up the pieces years ago and assembled them without modern technology. People used to ride their wagons 5+ hours up the road to see it.
Scott observing the view.
You could see forever.
It was a warm day, but up there it felt cooler in the wind.
 Scott thoroughly enjoyed himself.
It's a cool place and I recommend visiting if you don't mind windy roads or windy weather.

Outnumbered

We found out this week that we're having another boy!
Most of the ultrasound pictures looked a little creepy.
Scott is very excited about getting a brother.
He's been practicing pushing his car around so he'll be ready to give him rides.
We're taking name suggestions! So far we've chosen the last name Crapo and are thinking William for the middle name.
He's due August 11th, so we have about 20 weeks to decide.

Slide

One of the presents my dad gave Scott was a plastic slide.
He climbed up the slide a few times before discovering how to go up the step side.
Then he slides down on his stomach.
When he did it, we would clap and yay. Then he started clapping for himself whenever he went down the slide.
He really loves that slide, but the box it came in seems to be just as fun for him.
Especially if there's someone on the other side, he'll just go back and forth.
It's really entertaining when he's crossing the room and he goes through the box tunnel like it's the perfectly normal thing to do.

A Peter Rabbit Party

We had a luncheon at our house for Scott's first birthday with family and a few of his friends. The lighter-looking first pictures Katie took for me while I finished setting up for the party.
My friend Melody helped me cut circles to make more dot garlands.
She also helped roll carrot cutlery and made a cute sign for it.
We had strawberry-spinach, Chinese-chicken and pasta salads.
I bought a veggie tray from Costco complete with dip and my mom brought fruit salad and this chocolate bunny Edible Arrangement.
We had lemonade and Katie made a Scott banner. I put the newborn pictures from his room out because they're my favorite.
Karyn made Scott's beautiful cake.
Scott was excited and wanted to touch it.
The bunny was so cute and the lettuce heads were amazing.
Her detail impresses me every time.
Melody cut out numbers for me and I put a few pictures of Scott from each month up.
I also put pictures of Scott on the glass door of him being a "naughty rabbit." You can kind of see it in this picture. Amanda brought the balloons and a flower bouquet.
Luckily it was a beautiful day and the kids played in the backyard with Scott's car and Rocky.
Scott wanted to get in on the action.
Playing with Grandma
Summer is one of the girls in my primary class and she loves Scott.
Then he came inside to play with his buddy Anna.
I tried to get a picture with the families who came before they left. This is the only one with all 4 Georges. Lucas didn't want to get out of the car, but he's back there.
The Van Tassells
Aunt Amanda
The Blanks and Patty
Melody (the helpful artist) and John Fender
Karyn the cakemaker and the rest of the Harline fam
Lauren (and Lou) and Lincoln
My mom and the Summers (Stephen came later)
Scott liked Eric's hair
My dad and Manda. Scott was getting super sleepy
so we wired him up with some carrot cake
then let him open presents. Amanda gave him bananas and avocados. He dug right in.
Checking out a Star Wars counting book from the Van T's.
The older kids each helped Scott open one of his presents. Lucas opened the one his family brought--a pair of cute pajamas.
He applauded his Grandma's swim suit choice. He'll be stylin at the pool this summer.
He really likes this animal sound puzzle from my mom, too.
After our guests went home, we all crashed.
It was fun to have some of our family and friends together to celebrate our first year with Scott.

Trains & Teething

Sometimes Scott gets so animated when he's playing with his train set.
He likes for us to put the track together so he can take it apart.

Talking on the train phone.
He kept chewing all of the pieces.
Then he found my purse and started eating that, too.
I figured out his gums were hurting so I gave him an ice pack to chew on instead.
It's a giant Oreo and it looks so funny to see him sucking on it.
